The Perfect Fit in God’s Blessings

When God blesses us, it is a perfect fit.

His blessing will be perfect for you in ways you could not anticipate or design for yourself, in ways for which you did not even know your spirit groaned. That’s how you know it’s Him!

It is never a thing that is perfect in itself, or person who is perfect. Nothing and no one is perfect, except for the work of God’s hand, and the way that His blessing will fit you.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26

Once you choose to have faith in God’s provision, once you have trained your mind to see how perfectly the provision suits your needs, the many blessings in your life will become clear. I challenge anyone to look closely at what is going well in your life!

God blessed me recently with a dog, a house, and a car, in that order. Each one of these turned out to be a perfect fit for me in ways that I could not have anticipated and could not have arranged for myself.

My Dog Daisy

I got my dog when she was just a 10-week-old goldendoodle puppy, a fluff ball with big, brown, sensitive, and loving eyes. In her puppy exuberance, she was both confident and clingy to me like a baby who never knew fear or ill treatment. On one occasion, events in our environment caused her to be fearful enough to run away, the first threat to her innocence and her enduring characteristics of confidence and clinginess. It was her first encounter with anger and rage, and although I was not the cause of it, I found myself unable to shield her from that harmful energy. All my coaxing and supplication would not comfort her in that setting.

Because I loved her more than I loved myself, I immediately removed us both from that environment, mostly for her sake. I learned later that this move was for my good as well. This led to the opening of a beautiful new chapter in my life, one which was long needed but one which I lacked the courage to wrestle out for myself.  But it was easy to do for her sake. It was the only choice. Her innocence and purity meant she was inexperienced with and unable to tolerate such negative energy. This was the objective measurement I needed to know a change was necessary.

She was the perfect catalyst, and the perfect blessing, for me to step into God’s next perfect blessing. Since then, she has been a loyal and steadfast companion that has filled my heart with a purity of love I did not know I could feel, but had always longed for-- a perfect fit and just what I needed.

My Little Pink House

When I moved across the country away from the unhealthy environment, I needed a place to live. Long hours spent combing real estate websites produced some promising leads, but each was not a good fit for reasons I could not ignore. Each one I had found by myself was either in a not great neighborhood, with not great rental terms, or simply beyond my budget.

But then, a house for rent became known to me through a church connection. The Mayor of this small town said to me, “I have a friend with a nice little house just outside of town, by the lake.” Without even seeing any photos, and having absolutely no information to go on, I went to look at it. When I drove around the last corner of a long, winding, peaceful country road, what came into view was a respectable pink brick house sitting on top of a hill, nestled against a forest, with a big backyard for Daisy! It was a perfect fit. It was clean and in good repair, and the rent was safely within my budget. I signed the lease that day.

Only later would I learn that this house also came with a gracious and respectful landlord, and friendly and helpful neighbors who help me with mowing the vast lawn, and who bring me eggs from their chickens! And, because of the abundance of trees surrounding the property, I can hear the symphony of birds singing in the morning. God knew how these things would fill my heart.

Two years later, I have noticed that this house has never once failed me in terms of electricity, plumbing, or any other issues older homes normally have. It has weathered many storms without flinching. This is a house made of brick after all, and high up on a rock foundation. The house was built on rock, and my arrival here was built on the rock of faith.

Through rough weather, including ice storms, hailstorms, and pollen storms, we have been just fine in this little pink house. And- pink is one of my favorite colors. A perfect fit for me in so many unanticipated ways.

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

Luke 6:47-48

My Big Blue Jeep

When I moved here with Daisy, I had a car which was a lovely to the eye, a fast and sleek little German model, perfect for zipping around the city. But I did not live in a city anymore. Feeling the expense of its maintenance, I had lost the taste for lovely German cars. I had grown to dislike feeling conspicuous when I visited small country towns or needed a middle of nowhere gas station. I needed something more discrete, more rugged, with much more room—lots of room! For my Daisy, for her accessories, for my beach chairs, beach towels, beach umbrella, paddleboards, oars, cooler, sleeping bag, hiking gear, garden supplies, etc! I needed all this room and ruggedness, beyond the capacity of the sleek little German car. But for many reasons, I could not by my own strength go get a new car.

God is so good, and perfect with His timing. One day, He caused that car to fail. It failed mechanically in a way that made it inoperable, but with no property damage and no injury. I have to praise Him for His perfect goodness! He just made the car stop. As the day began to wane to night, it was towed off into the sunset and later determined to be unfixable. The end.

After a few days of research, I took myself to the local Jeep dealership 10 minutes from my little pink house. There sat a beautiful blue Jeep, which had arrived two weeks prior. This blue Jeep was a perfect fit, and I fell in love right away. It had plenty of room, it was inconspicuous in color, and it was four-wheel drive. It had a rugged feel while also having a lovely, light-colored, feminine interior. It was low mileage, and it had been owned by elderly people who kept it in a garage, rarely drove it, and performed timely maintenance! Does it get any better than that in the world of used cars?! All those details were perfect, AND it was within my budget.

It was a perfect fit for me. It was not itself perfect. There were a few scratches in the paint, and two tiny cracks in the windshield. But those cracks sparkled beautifully in the summer afternoon sunlight. I was in love. It was rugged and secretly lovely inside. During the test drive, I zoomed all around our small town, very much forgetting it was not already mine. I bought it the next day.

God will bless you perfectly. Do not settle for less!

But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Romans 8:25

I wanted to share these experiences to encourage anyone who may be waiting on a blessing. I waited for these blessings for a long time.

First of all, you can be confident that it’s coming. If you are walking with the Lord, if you have opened your heart to hear His guidance in your life, then your perfect blessing is definitely coming. It will be more perfect for you than you could have arranged for yourself because God knows your heart better than you do.

Secondly, it's the best standard to use if you are evaluating a decision in your life, maybe it’s moving to a country house, maybe it’s getting a different car, maybe it’s choosing a marriage partner. Rest assured when it’s from God, it will not be itself perfect, but it will be a perfect fit. It won’t be a perfect car without a scratch, and it won’t be a perfect person without scars, because perfect things and perfect people do not exist in this imperfect world. But God’s blessing will be a perfect fit for you.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Focus on the perfection of how God has blessed you already!
